To commemorate its centennial anniversary (December 2005) Yara Trinidad Ltd has documented six original steelband compositions of Ray Holman in a double CD “Changing Time.” The CD will be launched March 29, 2006.
Yara, which operates an ammonia production facility, is Executive Producer for the project and provided all the funding. Other support came from the University of the West Indies' Centre for Creative and Festival Arts (CCFA), St. Augustine Campus, Trinidad.
The Music Literacy Trust endorsed the project, and UWI/CCFA Music Lecturers did the transcription and proof editing. UWI students converted the scores to other formats and the music is performed by UWI Festival Steel Ensemble perform the six compositions:
1. Sand Point Reggae
2. Playa Larga
3. Changing Time
4. Waltz for Iris
5. Heroes of the Nation
6. Socking it with Steel
Disc 1 features the audio recordings and Disc 2 has Scores in Sibelius, Finale, Midi and PDF formats as well as several files of scores categorization, company/Personality/Ensemble profiles,
comments by the Musical Transcriber and Editor, Music Literacy Trust profile, and accompanying photos.
The objective is to increase music literacy by documenting Ray Holman's work which is taught at CCFA and internationally as well as for the cultural aspect of preserving Trinidad and Tobago's steel pan music.
It was recorded/mastered and transcribed in Trinidad and Tobago but is being produced by Disc Graphics Inc., New York, USA., through its local agent Sanch Electronix Ltd (Trinidad).
